| About Leticia: I am from Down Under, residing in the USA for 10 years now. I have 3 daughters, Julie, Jamiee and Angie. My husband, Harry, is an engineer with a degree in Physics. I have been teaching Pre-K children in Room D for eight years. I enjoy singing and playing all day long and I am always in awe at the amazing world around me. I love to wonder, discover and question all that I observe. I enjoy learning each day from the children in my class. About Anna: I am thrilled to be assisting Leticia in the classroom this year! My family and I are originally from Berkeley, Caliifornia. I taught preschool for about five years in San Francisco and Oakland before we moved to Tucson eight years ago. I am really exited to be working with preschooolers once again, especially at a preschool with such a great philosophy as St. Mark's and with a teadcher as experienced and fun as Leticia! Both my daughters went here and had enriching experiences. When I am not working, I enjoy painting, pottery, and gardening. I also volunteer as a librarian at my daughter's school and with Literacy Volunteers of Tucson where I teach English Language Acquisition for Adults. I am excited to work with all the new students and their families this year! |
| TRY THESE WRITING AND READING IDEAS WITH YOUR PRESCHOOLER!
° Leave notes for your child, even if he/she can’t really read yet. Have them “pretend write” notes back to you. Experimenting with writing is as important to becoming a writer as crawling is to walking. ° Provide special child-friendly places for reading, writing and creating art activities in your home. [Pre-school is not the only place these should be done.] ° Cook and bake with your child. Read packages and recipes together. Even write your own recipes. ° Write shopping lists together. ° Notice and talk about the print all around you, everywhere you go. ° Tell stories and listen to your child’s stories. ° Play language games. [e.g. “I spy”, “Which one doesn’t belong”, “How are these the same/ different.”] ° Read at least one book per day to your child. Talk and read about anything that interests your child. ° Listen to your child read. “Pretend” reading is important. [Go on a field trip to the library] |
